Anthony Joshua

We ask an expert panel what the best case scenario for the big-name heavyweights would be and what’s the best fight to make in the division without Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

Matt Macklin
Former European champion

We want to see an undisputed champion. AJ getting step aside money suits him, because he gets time with a new trainer. I think Fury beats Usyk. I give Joshua a better chance against Fury than I give him against Usyk in a rematch. But Whyte is long overdue his shot. He wants his shot and who can blame him?

Dave Coldwell
Leading trainer

I think AJ could step aside and he fights the winner of Usyk-Fury, which I’d really love to see, but the problem with that is Whyte’s kept waiting even longer. But if I was speaking as just a fan and wanted to see a couple of great fights then AJ versus Whyte, Fury against Usyk, and then the winners square off.

People want to see the best vs the best and also want to see the man who beat the man. So Usyk vs Fury with the winner to box AJ is my ideal scenario.

I want to see a world heavyweight title fight between two undefeated champions so Fury-Usyk is the priority. Joshua and Whyte can then have a rematch to decide who fights the winner. It’s so blindingly obvious, it probably won’t happen.

OUTSIDE OF THOSE FOUR WHAT’S THE BEST FIGHT THAT BE MADE AT HEAVYWEIGHT?

Matt Macklin
I know Michael Hunter had a stinker there in his last performance. But I thought he beat Alexander Povetkin. Usyk beat him, but that’s a loss that hasn’t aged badly. Outside of Fury, I think Hunter gives anyone a hard night. Him and Joseph Parker is a good fight.

Dave Coldwell
Outside of those four, Joe Joyce against Deontay Wilder. That’s the fight that, outside of those four, I would definitely like to see.

Micky Helliet
My top four would be Fury, Usyk, Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Whyte’s size and body punching versus Michael Hunter’s skills, variety and stamina would be the fight outside the top four that I’d most like to see.

Declan Taylor
Joe Joyce against Deontay Wilder. Relentless pressure against one-punch dynamite. Wilder won’t have to go far to find Joyce but how will he cope if he doesn’t finish the fight inside six? It would be a belter.
