Lawrence Okolie punchers

To celebrate Lawrence Okolie’s return to the ring this weekend, here are the 10 hardest male punchers in British boxing right now…

1. Lawrence Okolie
When Okolie whips his right hand at an opponent, few come away unaffected. His latest run of knockouts stands at seven, with last year’s title-winning stoppage of Krzysztof Głowacki his finest.

2. Anthony Joshua
When compared with Deontay Wilder, Joshua’s power seems hardly worth mentioning. However, it’s easy to forget he has 22 knockouts in 24 wins and has stopped some famously durable heavyweights.

3. Anthony Yarde
With 21 knockouts from 22 wins, Yarde’s stats scream power, even if the competition hasn’t always been the best. Last year’s win over Lyndon Arthur was vicious and he gave Sergey Kovalev all he could handle in 2019.

4. Callum Johnson
His career has been annoyingly stop-start, but Johnson can clearly punch. Before going the distance last time out, he had won his previous six fights by knockout and even dropped the formidable Artur Beterbiev in 2018.

5. Joe Joyce
He may not be one-punch power in the traditional sense, but, with 12 knockouts in 13 wins, nobody can deny Joyce’s knack for suffocating opponents. Victims include Daniel Dubois and Carlos Takam.

6. Daniel Dubois
Seen as a monstrous puncher on the way up, Dubois’ sting was drawn by Joe Joyce in 2020. Nevertheless, the London heavyweight has registered his last five victories within two rounds and boasts a good stoppage win over Nathan Gorman.

7. Callum Smith
Smith wreaked havoc with his power at super-middleweight, scoring a quick knockout against Rocky Fielding, a scary one against Luke Blackledge, and a career-defining one against George Groves.

8. Joshua Buatsi
Buatsi has shown enough in his 15 pro fights to date – 13 of which ended before the final bell – to suggest he carries power. His 11th round finish of Ricards Bolotņiks in his last fight was his best so far.

9. James Tennyson
As up and down as any fighter in the UK, Tennyson either knocks you out or gets knocked out. He was halted inside a round by Jovanni Straffon in 2021, yet his last 11 wins have all come via KO.

10. Leigh Wood
The smallest man on the list, featherweight Wood has won his last six fights by knockout and has a tendency to get to opponents late. His 2021 win against Can Xu was a perfect example of this.
