WBO middleweight champion Savannah Marshall is only a few days away from her unification showdown with IBF, WBC, WBA champion Claressa Shields.
The two career rivals will collide on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London.
Marshall will be looking to stamp her win over Shields from 2012, when the two champions were just amateurs.
That bout was the only time Shields had ever tasted defeat in a boxing ring.
Shields would progress her career with two Olympic gold medals – and world titles in three weight divisions – including undisputed title runs at both junior middleweight and middleweight.
Marshall, regarded as one of the most feared punchers in women’s boxing, feels confident that Shields will taste defeat in the pros when they finally trade punches.
Shields has been very vocal with her prediction of a one-sided wipeout of Marshall. The British boxer is not paying attention to the taunts.
“She’s had a lot to say about me but it doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t get under my skin. I don’t care what she thinks about anything – she’s not one of my friends or family so her opinion doesn’t mean anything at all to me. We will do our talking in the ring on Saturday night – I’m going to take her into deep water and drown her in the Thames,” Marshall said.
Marshall has knocked out ten of her twelve pro opponents. She has not gone the distance since 2018 – with her most recent bout, against veteran Femke Hermans, ended with a brutal one-punch knockout in three rounds. Hermans had never been stopped and previously went the full distance with Shields back in 2018.
