If anyone’s curious how Adrien Broner’s been doing since losing to Manny Pacquiao last year, the answer is “poorly.” After being arrested for drunk driving back in March, the former champ was sentenced to seven days in jail yesterday for violating his probation.
Said probation actually dates back to his 2018 arrest for “gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, misdemeanor sexual imposition and abduction, a third-degree felony;” Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO) plead down to “assault and unlawful restraint,” receiving two years of probation. He didn’t contest the civil suit levied against him, resulting in a $830,000 payment to the woman who alleged that Broner forcibly kissed her at a nightclub and refused to stop.
He’s currently facing yet more fallout from that case.
The woman’s lawyers from the Chandra Law Firm in Cleveland filed a motion earlier this month accusing Broner of not responding to document requests and failing to show up for a scheduled deposition in that case. Russo on Wednesday gave Broner 28 days to respond to the motions before she considers ordering sanctions.
The judge who sentenced Broner said she hoped it would serve as a ““wake-up call.” Considering that “The Problem” has spent the last decade being repeatedly arrested for battery, alleged groping, trespassing, and more, that sounds overly optimistic.
Broner has not won a fight in three years and has not beaten a top-level opponent in almost five.
